That is exactly the process that should be followed and why I never get upset if the FD asks me to verify on the phone the email address on my Marriott account or better the last 4 digits of the CC on the reservation. That to me demonstrates a property that takes security seriously and one that isn't going to be bullied into breaking their policy for someone trying to pull a fast one.
