Yes this can happen in LHR if you are not group 1 or 2. With group 2 boarding I have never seen any issues, however I have arrived late at gate also and seen group 3-5 getting weighed, checked and people getting upset. I had no issues as I could still use the priority lane on the other side, which is a feature I like about LHR boarding.
