This forum is a great learning tool. OK first AC. The non-stop is way more expensive. Like over $8000 PHX-YVR-BKK. If I hop to YVR on a $600 flight and book the nonstop it's still well over $7000. The one with connections in NRT is competitive but nothing special compared to what I already find going through SFO/LAX/SEA.
On PR when I looked at their site to book it's not much different than ANA or JAL. What fascinates me is comparing seatguru to the aerolopa.com (thanks emailkid) seat options. On seatguru they only show PR 777s with 2-3-2 angle flat seating. On aerolopa.com there are TWO 777s in the PR fleet. One is the 2-3-2 and the other is a 1-2-1.
When I look at booking on the PR website it shows the lesser quality one. Maybe it's wrong and their webpage isn't updated. Might know if I actually booked and selected seats but the cost delta isn't enough to care. I KNOW what I get with JAL/ANA.
I am learning useful stuff here but so far looks like the ticket I am holding on ANA PHX-SFO-NRT-BKK and reverse is pretty much as good as it gets meeting my criteria. Lie flat 1-2-1 and $4971.
Hoping the Starlux tickets come down over time aka PHX-TPE-BKK.
