The current procedure appears to involve entering the carriage from one door, walking through to do the visual inspection, then pressing a button on the doorway of the second door to close up. Presumably the exact same system could be used with open gangway carriages by simply having the staffer remain on the train and pressing each door close button without stepping back to the platform (until reaching the end of the train).
