BA passport check nuisance at IAD (and JFK) [passport check before TSA Pre-Check]

I flew back IAD-LHR this week, hand luggage only and with my BP downloaded on the app. I get to the TSA checkpoint at security and the (very friendly) agent tells me I have to go back to BA check-in to get a physical BP. I know exactly what this is - a passport check - but it is pretty pathetic of BA a) not to tell passengers about this/prevent downloading of an online BP b) develop tech like AA app so you can verify your passport online; or c) at least do the checks at the gate for those who don’t have a physical BP.

At least 2 other BA passengers were turned away in the time I was queuing - the TSA agent sighed when I scanned my BP and said “You too honey - that airline really needs to sort this mess out”.

Luckily the queue was relatively short both times I had to line up, but if I had waited any length I would have been hopping mad with BA for this runaround.
