The Alua Leo is fine, especially off season. It's anything selling an all-inclusive package that you probably need to avoid. (The Leo doesn't sell alcohol-included packages, which keeps the white trash away generally...)
Right now, with double points on offer in Europe, that would lead me to look for cheap cash rates rather than award stays. But you're quite right that there are some HPs popping up in places that are worth spending a few days visiting...
