My first flight to Honolulu was in 1976. Waikiki was busy but manageable. Fast forward 49 years and modern day tourism has overrun most of Hawaii with vastly greater numbers of visitors that in many instances the airport infrastructure has not kept up with.
Using lounges as a perk for credit card holders changed the landscape in a big way, and not for the better. I miss the days of the spacious and relaxed vibe of United's Red Carpet Club in the late 70s and early 80s
