No, while technically QF would be responsible for the delay in these types of scenarios the carriers work together to get pax where they're trying to go. It would be no problem for AA agents at DFW to rebook him onto a later DFW-MEX option (they can see that the delayed QF flight caused the misconnect).
Even more likely is that if the QF flight is that delayed then AA will proactively rebook misconnecting pax while the flight is in the air, and there will be many AA agents meeting the flight with new boarding passes and offering assistance, etc.
