On top of that problem, I had to face, was the arrogant attitude of Volotea’s customer service. They refused to acknowledge that I didn’t have a valid ticket, even after I politely explained the situation and asked them for my ticket number. It was only after I threatened to report them to the relevant European authorities that they finally admitted the issue and agreed to refund me, admitting they’ve been facing this problem for several days now.

P.S. They are still advertising that same fare as available for sale — which is completely unacceptable. I truly feel sorry for the passengers who will unknowingly book it, only to find out a few days before their flight that they have no valid ticket. Unacceptable. Never again will I book with Volotea.

By the way, it seems this might even be part of a broader strategy by Volotea — see the post below from Reddit:

Hopefully Volotea improve with A3 influence. I've only had problems with Volotea due to late major schedule changes and cancellations. If it's possible to believe, I've been due to fly with them 3 times and my family a further 2. All had to get rearranged to other airlines due to Volotea changes, sometimes just over 2 weeks before take off.

As for what Volotea have done with your ticket, EU261 would depend on whether they issued you want they told you is a ticket, and you can prove this, rather than whether it had an e-ticket number.
