I think that the gentleman is trying to say that for the money (1/2 of a $250ish ticket) see his statement:

the equivalent would be the NRT, HKG, or LHR runs one way. For $250ish he would get twice the miles of the original run and therefore is comparing it apples to apples by slicing the fare in half.
