I will take EWR-ICN in a heartbeat if my destination is Korea, but if I am connecting, I’d still prefer HND/NRT due to UA/NH JV and seamless travel experience.
If connecting to mainland China then ICN is particularly attractive for cities other than PVG and PEK that are well connected to the US, as KE is well connected to multiple Chinese cities, much more so than NH, thus saving one a domestic flight on CA and international to domestic transfer in mainland China.
