However, if they are on separate reservations/PNRs, you are cutting it awfully close. JAL's cutoff for checking luggage is 60 minutes before departure time, giving you only 33 minutes to pick up your bags and check them in for your flight to Japan. There are no formal immigration controls when departing the US.
