I recently took a flight from London to Shanghai with Air China, was sold an upgrade at check in from economy to premium, but then at the gate was told the seat wasn't functioning and the IFE didn't work. There was no alternative seat available, and the attendant on board told me I'd be able to get a partial refund for the hassle of at least half.
I have called and was told to email, and have sent a couple of emails now without response. Any idea of how best to proceed?

[email protected] and explicitly request compensation. The outstation where your flight originated from actually has a fair bit of authority to issue compensations and are usually a lot more responsive
