Just wondering whether anyone else has been experiencing difficulties in successfully removing their membership number recently.
Sep 25: Asked for my membership number to be removed at PVG. Boarding pass did not show MPC number. Got greeted by the ISM onboard (who showed me her iPad with my membership details). ISM suggested I call the hotline to resolve the issue. Points were credited into my account a couple of days later.
- Called the customer hotline (Cantonese). The lady said nothing can be done after the points were credited into my account. She asked me whether I would like to remove my MPC number for my upcoming flights, which I (in hindsight, foolishly) declined.
Oct 25: Asked for my membership number to be removed at the Pier. Lounge staff re-printed my boarding pass (with no MPC number). Got greeted by the ISM again on the flight. Points credited into my account again.
- Called customer hotline (Cantonese). The guy told me nothing can be done after the points were credited into my account (which is consistent enough).
- I then asked for my number to be removed for the return flight. He told me: (i) that requires OTP authentication with my HK phone number - email cannot be used even though I was abroad; (ii) alternatively, I can remove the number through CX's website (which is, in fact, no longer possible); and (iii) however, and in any event, since my membership number was in the booking when I first created the trip, there is a chance that the points will still be credited immediately after my return flight (and, by extension, basically all my trips for the remaining year).
- After the guy had spoken with his supervisor (twice), he told me the only options to "guarantee" no points would be credited into my MPC account immediately after the flights are: (a) crediting the points into another oneworld partnership programme; or (b) forfeiting the status points (for good) for the remaining flight(s). To his credit, the guy understood none of these options would assist me. He then proceeded to explain the benefits of reaching 1400, 1600 etc.
- (a day later) Called customer hotline (English - gave up on the Cantonese line after 15 mins, whereas the English line got connected to Manila immediately).
- I told the lady I would like to remove my MPC number from the booking, and to only credit the points next year since I already have sufficient points for renewal.
- The lady put me on hold, then came back and said she would remove my MPC number. She also emailed me the travel document for my return flight, which no longer has my MPC number. The booking has also disappeared from "Manage Booking" in my CX account.
Fingers crossed that the 100 pts would not be credited into my account when I am back in HK...
