Kinda an impossible red flag though - isn't that precisely why everyone adds someone to their redemption group? To burn miles for that person? (Same logic goes both for adding nominees initially, and then swapping old nominees out for new ones.
There is zero benefit from what I can tell, and all downside, to pre-emptively adding someone as a nominee without the intention to book a ticket for them.
My redemption group initially consisted of only two people (my father and mother), but I often purchased cash tickets for them since they didn't need to travel long distances.
Then, two new people were added to the remaining two redemptions, and the redemption group didn't even reach the maximum of five people.
