I returned to the HR Monterey for a long weekend recently with a group of friends. We booked the President's House, which is a stand-alone house on the property with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths along with a private pool, full kitchen, and various other features. The house has a maximum capacity of 6 supposedly, or at least that’s what the Hyatt app/website allowed me to book for. I think normally you need to email/call to book this, so perhaps they would allow more guests booking that way. In any event, 6 was sufficient for our purposes. The house is at the end of the hotel property, about a 5ish minute walk from the lobby. It has 2 entrances and is structured with the 4 bedrooms bookending the common space in the middle. Each bedroom (numbered 1901-1904) has its own lock and keycard. We aggregated all costs/charges together, but in theory I think you can have each person responsible for the room charges for their particular room and they will send you a receipt for each room.

Our various thoughts are:

Pros
  • Spacious bedrooms, each with their own bathroom
  • Each room has an outdoor seating area, though it seems like for some rooms it just leads out to the backyard. For the room I stayed in (1901), it was a private area.
  • Visually impressive backyard with seating, a grill, heated pool, corn hole, speakers connected to the sound system inside, heating lamps, and more.
  • AC worked quite well
  • Acceptable water pressure, which is not a given in CA
  • Towels galore - towels were stacked outside for the pool and it seemed like each room had half a dozen towels at least.
  • Kitchen had its own water filtration system - no need to go to the hydration stations scattered around the hotel grounds.
  • A lot of cleaning supplies/coffee pods
  • Tons of plates, silverware, and various types of cups
  • Various games provided (cornhole outside, extensive poker chip set, large jenga, some board games)
  • Free unlimited ev charging, though this was a bit far from the house
  • Seemed like breakfast for all our guests were included
Cons
  • Missing some kitchen basics - like a regular sized cutting board (there was a tiny one the size of my hand), bowls (only seemed to be one or two bowls), baking trays, a wine opener, and ice trays. There was no way to make ice in the house which is a bit of a bummer, but the closest one is in the building next door.
  • A few items were not in great shape - cast iron pan was rusted
  • No writing supplies of any kind (no paper, pens)
  • No condiments other than some pepper. No cream/sugar of any kind for the coffee machine
  • Chromecast in the main tv did not work
  • Booked a golf package and no reservations were available during our time windows - our fault in part for not booking this in advance but perhaps they should be reaching out ahead of time or letting you know that you’ll definitely need a reservation
  • Staff responsiveness was hit or miss. Maintenance issues were taken addressed quickly (half our keys stopped working early on day 1 and they had to reset something in the room locks, surround sound system was difficult to connect to, outdoor heat lamps look like they might be broken).
  • 1901 room shower tub was slippery as heck
  • No driving range at the course and the one they suggest close by is not good
  • Breakfast was meh and is definitely not worth it unless it’s free.
  • Pool wasn't the cleanest (just a bit of debris from the plantlife). They ought to cover it when not in use.
Neutral:
  • I didn’t like that you needed a different room key for each of the bedrooms but i guess it’s good if you don’t trust the people you’re traveling with I guess? My partner does like the idea of each room having separate keys. The rooms aggressively favor swinging shut so the only way to keep them open is use the doorstop or room latch to prop it open otherwise you’re forced to carry your room key at all times, so we all ended up just propping open our doors during the day.
Overall, my friends were impressed and thought it was a nice location for a party, a group of couples or a large family to vacation together in and a decent value for the cost.

Here are some photos from in and around the house since they don't provide much online:
