Unless UA is also trying to make everyone memorize their PNRs (I'll admit I used to but no longer even attempt to) there's not a benefit to them.

I admit to trying to memorize my PNR, or having it readily available, while standing in the kiosk line. But knowing about the "select MP #" option will make things much smoother.
