Yes, on my last stay at Fairfield in Tucson they asked at the check in for my phone number. I've told the lady "its the same number as in my profile", to which she replied "Oh, I don't have access to your profile".
It's not worth fighting over. At least is not as invasive as Hilton's where you check in, go to your room and keep getting tons of text messages:
"Hi, This is Jimandbob from front desk. If you need anything just let me know". Then follow up texts in the evening and next morning. That drives me crazy.
