You know that some efficiency expert convinced UA that they could save .003 cents per transaction by forcing pax to use MBPs, and I believe that they designed this rat maze to make it more difficult to get a paper BP. Why do DL and AA still allow pax to easily get paper boarding passes? Is it just that their customer service cultures are better? These Kirby Kwality enhancements are becoming tiresome.
American is installing the new small kiosks that just do bag tags. The roll-out just hasn't been very fast. In their new lobby at CLT, they have a bunch of them. To be fair, the American app is horrible in comparison to UA or even DL (or even NK and WN). I've never had an upgrade clear or same day standby/change process with AA where my boarding pass updated in the app (even after exiting it completely out and reopening). I've always had to go up and get a printed BP... and you can tell that the agents know this because when they run upgrades/clear standbys, they print all the BPs and have them laying out on the gate desk.

Delta... at some hub service desks now (assuming you can't get the app to work... last time I rebooked I couldn't get a boarding pass at all, nor could the chat agent figure it out)... you can't just get in line and can't just get a boarding pass. Scan the QR code to a virtual queue manager, input your PNR (which means go look it up), what you need, etc. then wait for agent with iPad to call you forward and send you a text saying it's your turn, then you can go see an agent.... who asks you for all of the above again! They don't receive your info, so you still have to give ID/PNR/show them the app. Even with nobody in line.

Spirit actually makes it very easy to get a printed boarding pass at the kiosks... you can input PNR or your first/last name and destination, or scan mobile pass, and boom, there you go. You check in on kiosk, it automatically prints a boarding pass. Their agents actually prefer if you have more than one in your party you each have your own paper pass versus standing there at the boarding door taking up time scrolling between them.
