The clearest answer is that it may vary.
I have definitely seen prices drop at LHR hotels in the final few days when not full.
On the other hand, capacity can change a lot at any particular hotel as a few cancellations can mean things filling up quickly. Bear in mind there are lots of weather and strike issues atm.
Safest bet would be to book something refundable for now but keep an eye on it if you want something cheaper.
