There is a semi-airside connection route in T1 .. but you do need to re-clear security ( unlike in T2 ) .. Yeah I don't really count that as an airside route, more just a shortcut to security from the baggage claim. At any rate wouldn't work for OP, as you say, since no way to get a BP.
T2 airside connections actually does have airline desks right before where you can get a BP, I definitely have seen desks there for EI and US airlines. I don't remember if there are any BA desks though.
