As a completely bizarre datapoint, I also bought a physical gift card online and ran into a similar problem as you, where it took a long time to ship. The pending charge actually fell off of my statement and then I received an email indicating my order had shipped, but I did not receive another charge. I have since received my card and I still don't have an associated charge on my statement.

lulu only send the transaction to amex after they ship out the card. so it stays as a pending charge until then. if lulu do not complete that transaction, i think it gets dropped/cancelled automatically after some time. so most likely, lulu's shipping team messed up and took too long to ship the gc, resulting in you not being charged
