IIRC you don't get a phone number with 3HK eSIM that accepts texts. I remember trying to type that number in and it never gets an SMS, and yes I did remember to use +852.
WX verification works for most things, but there are some apps/services like AMAP (Gaode) that requires phone number registration, and they do not allow US numbers.

You need an account or something now right? Many years ago I got a China Unicom prepaid SIM that worked for me. But that was pre-COVID and after COVID it got canceled. I remember using that SIM for SMS verification. But now it seems registration is much harder.
I only have an M Business Visa, is that enough? Or I thought you needed some address and that's always been a problem.
