so new status point bonus applies in both spending and distance options even when booked outside AS site?

i am rather confused by seemingly contradicting "please note" part in the distance earning description:
"Earn based on how far you go — the more miles you fly, the more points you rack up. (That's perfect for transcontinental or long-haul international flights.) You'll earn status points for award travel based on distance, too. Please note: If you select this earn choice, you’ll no longer earn class of service bonuses or minimum miles".
