Stayed here a couple of times (5 days in August and 16 in September 2025) in an unrenovated suite (311). Everything seems pretty much the same as conveyed by everyone in this thread! The majority of the staff are really fantastic, the food is pretty good and very well priced for a resort. The internet worked OK but not great. It did drop sometimes and speeds at other times were very poor. Remote working with important calls etc I would discourage, but I did manage it for a few quieter working days. Many aspects being old fashioned / unrenovated isn't so bad for the most part, and I do think that it contributes to their generally reasonable rates. The male spa area is one part I would call out as being in such poor condition that you wouldn't really want to use it, although the treatment rooms are fine.
Unfortunately the hotel reservations team and availability games are what really let this place down. Suites haven't shown in the app or Hyatt.com for months but could be obtained by checking with the hotel reservations team and were for sale on other websites, which feels very dodgy indeed. The reservations teams they hadn't listed standard rooms on Hyatt but they were actually available, seeming like they want to discourage points bookings. Their prices also have a tendency to drop closer to the time which I think they use as some kind of market segmentation for foreign advanced bookers vs the local crowd, and there is a good mix of both there.
Renovations to the North wing and including the Club lounge start in January 2026.
The reason I know that renovations start in January 2026 is particularly unfortunate. The hotel, after confirming suite availability (and a hold on one) for a booking I made for friends in May next year has told my concierge when trying to apply a SUA that no suites are available from January 2026 as they are unsure of the renovation schedule. Made worse by the fact I made 2 room bookings for May next year on the basis they had this suite, and I took the hotels word for it that they'd secured the suite for me and booked flights! This was all after significant, prolonged and difficult messaging with the reservations team, and I received no apology, reassurance or proper assistance from the hotel.
I do very much recommend the Alila Solo. It's not a resort and perhaps wouldn't be quite as good for kids etc, but the executive suite, spa and lounge are amazing and the staff also brilliant. As others mentioned, there is much less to do in Solo vs Yogyakarta, but if you're planning a more hotel-centred relaxing break, I think it is the better choice.
