For Bangkok, 7 nights is a long time to spend in Sukhumvit. I would suggest splitting time between Sukhumvit and riverside, especially for a first stay.
I would agree on the Westin - I believe it is quite run down, as they are looking to undergo a total make-over and re-open as a Ritz-Carlton; hence, not much has been put into keeping it well-maintained. I am not sure about the timeline for that though. Do also note that the hotel is on a cliff-side with a rocky beach.

Also echoing the split between city centre and riverside.
