Yes you are quite right. However I should have written that it was a British Caledonian (oh no, that jingle is back...) routing, initially using 707s in 1980. I think it was the freight side that was most useful, So the point I was trying to make really was that after the massive 9/11 recoil, a Venn diagram of UK airlines to USA would now look fairly similar to the coverage prior to the previous high-water mark, which would have been around 1984 or so. There are some routes BA have dropped and not restarted, CHS springs to mind, plus DTW (and perhaps CLE).
