Yes to both. I tried to update mine months ago and had forgotten it never worked. I recently re-entered and was sent to the CBP agent who told me it was not updated and to go online and do it. But it still doesn't work so it looks like i'll be going in person.
just wondering, what happened in the end? You showed your GE card and the agent let you through? I assume you were directed to the CBP agent after the kiosk didn’t read your passport(?)
