I'll second (or third?) the suggestion of staying on the city side of the river, or at least in Lujiazui (e.g. SL and RC are both good), so you get the Bund View. Just be forewarned that crossing the river after the subways and boats stop running is incredibly annoying. I should also point out that the Bund, itself, is somewhat isolated. HOTB, on the other hand, has good subway access, and a pretty good view of the Bund (it's not actually on the Bund).
