Three hours, right? No, boarding is at 6:35, so basically just over a 2 hour layover. Any way of getting from EWR to JFK is at least 2 hours or more. Everything would have to be absolutely perfect, and no line at TSA for it to maybe work. I didn't think it would, so I looked around for alternatives.
There's a flight to ISP, which I had been trying to get but couldn't work in. Great, I'll cancel my EWR flight (so as not to double book), pay a little more for the ISP one and have plenty of time to take the LIRR back to JFK.
Cancelled, tried booking ISP, but NO SEATS? I don't know if I missed a warning or not, or even what making a reservation with no seats means. I assumed you'd get put on standby? Crud. Well, there's a flight to LGA, no destination credit because I already had it, but it gets me back to NY in plenty of time for my 7:20pm flight. I could have made this as an SDC, but no longer after cancelling the first one.
So I did that, got my 3 hours 20 minutes of sleep and flew in to LGA. No credit, meaning my PHX flight only counts as number 14. I sort of planned for this, my next week (in about a week) has 6 or 7 flights, so I can make up the missed one.
I did get to spend a bit of time in NY, mostly at the MoMA. I have thoughts about the Metro subway.
I am going to go over the next week so see if I can adjust anything to make it easier on myself. I kind of think I made it somewhat "tight", so there's not much slack. The "arrive late/leave early" thing sucks.
If I could have read the future, I could have kept my EWR flight, because the PHX plane had mechanical problems, so we switched to another one (new gate was only 5 miles away) and left an hour 20 minutes late. First plane would have been "It's Got All the Blues and Whistles" (obviously not), the one we took was, I think, "Blue Unity". It had the older entertainment system with the buttons in the seat where your elbow is constantly change the brightness or volume.
JFK->PHX is my last B6 flight this go around. I'll try to come up with a "Don't do what I did" list soon. Mostly, though, living on the East coast is probably the biggest plus. The 25 For 25 family I met were doing everything on the weekends, since the kids were still in school. Man, the whole family, each with 350,000 points. Probably make for some cool vacations.
