yes if they make the MCT 300 minutes it would result in some reduction of misconnects. If they make it 1 day it would result in more reduction. That's not alone enough to say that the "correct" MCT is (whatever number you want it to be).
As I said previously, the correct number would be what Delta would set it at if the costs of misconnects were internalized to Delta rather than the passenger (like what happened to multiple European airports after EC261 was implemented). Right now there is an externality that Delta (and other carriers) offload to unwitting passengers.

At a minimum I would accept a popup box at booking (I know this doesn't solve OTA directly) that says "Be aware that this is a tight connection, and you may be responsible for paying for meals, accommodation, or transportation if you misconnect" to reduce the information asymmetry. It would be even better if Delta used their data to indicate a probability of misconnect ("This flight has a 10-15% chance of a misconnect... this flight has a 50% chance of a misconnect") but that would be more effort.
