I do the same thing. Since I still can't rely on AC to operate flights on time consistently, I still won't book international connections of less than two hours in any case. I don't check bags - ever - so it's a bit easier to manage that way. Connections in YUL are easy ... if I have to go through YYZ and change terminals I'm in for a three hour layover but it's not that bad, really.
