It is relative to personal circumstances of course but I do not view the cash saving you can make with Avios on a holiday booking (your example of around the 0.5p mark is typical) as good value when I can get better value elsewhere - usually longhaul in premium cabins but sometimes last minute shorthaul can give good value too when the cash fares have soared but reward availability remains. 1p would be the minimum i would accept but average much higher than that.
