The alternative was a direct flight with either Vueling, Norwegian or SAS. Price roughly the same at 300 Euro, and a travel time of 2 hours.
A "global" Interrail pass valid for 4 travel days in 1 month costs €212 for a youth. Your daughter have paid for seat reservations, a night in a cheap hotel en route, and still saved money versus the flight.
