ba does have some policies for allowing free changes or cancellations in emergencies, but they wouldn't cover something like this i am afraid. i think you would be wasting your time trying to pursue a request for a free change here.

your options really are to change the booking based on the change rules - it sounds like a change fee and fare difference - or explore alterative options such as making a new booking with ba or someone else which would be cheaper.
