Hilton Price Match Guarantee – practically unattainable? My experience

I’d like to share my recent experience with Hilton’s Price Match Guarantee (PMG), because it left me seriously questioning whether this program is achievable in practice. I submitted three separate claims for Hilton Garden Inn New York / Tribeca: First claim: Same room submitted, but rejected because of the view description (standard vs. view). Second claim: Corrected and submitted the exact same room with view – rejected because the cancellation dates were not identical. Third claim: Same room, same type, and in this case the competitor even offered more favorable cancellation terms. Rejected again, this time because the competitor required prepayment while Hilton did not. At this point it feels like Hilton is doing everything possible to find a reason for rejection. Each time, a different technicality was used, even when the guest would not be disadvantaged at all. It really gives the impression that finding an acceptable match is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I’ve been staying with Sheraton/Marriott properties in the past, but I wanted to give Hilton a fair chance and even tried to book directly with them. After this experience, however, I don’t see myself switching. It seems I’ll either remain with Sheraton or, if I do book Hilton, I’ll end up going through third-party sites – which is more complicated for me and certainly doesn’t leave a positive impression of Hilton’s brand promise. My questions to the community: Has anyone here actually succeeded with a Hilton PMG claim recently? If yes, what exact conditions made it work? Do you also feel this program is structured in a way that looks good on paper but is practically unattainable?
