Thanks for all the suggestions. It's seems like staying near SHA is the obvious winner here, especially with the new direct train between PVG and SHA. Shame that neither of the SHA hotels are terribly unique or affordable (~CNĄ 1000/night), but I won't be spending much time in my room, regardless. I will definitely check into the other SHA hotels, as well. I'm also considering 3 nights in Suzhou and my final night at PVG.

I have given up trying to find maps that work on a PC and finally downloaded Amap on my phone, which seems to work quite well as a replacement for Google Maps. I will be arriving (PVG) on a Monday evening and departing on Friday morning (PVG or SHA?), so I would prefer to avoid the hassle of multiple hotels/lugging my bag all over. I also prefer to avoid traffic headaches, hence my preference for trains, even if they are a bit of a hassle compared to rail travel anywhere else.
