Fair comment - I like the interior, but you’re probably right that at some point they’ll need a full renovation of the rooms, like adding power outlets by the bed and giving the bathrooms a more updated look. I spend a lot of time in PB and WPB and I definitely don’t go there expecting a modern or futuristic vibe. Everything has a dated feel and I think Four Seasons works well with what they have, an old building that they can only renovate so much. Palm Beach and West Palm are also pretty strict about protecting their “historic” buildings, so there’s only so much you can change even if you want to. One thing I do like about FS is that if something goes wrong they make it right, and many other luxury brands simply don’t.

There are definitely better located hotels in the area. If I were heading there mainly to dine out and have drinks, I’d probably stay somewhere like The Ben in West Palm. It’s still not an amazing hotel, but it ticks many of the boxes. Also, remember that FS Palm Beach offers a town car service, though I didn’t have a need to use it since I didn’t leave the hotel except to pick up a friend.

The beach loungers really do cost $300 now. We rented some recently and the Four Seasons website confirms it. I’m not confusing them with the cabanas. Obviously the loungers around the pool are still complimentary.

I compare it to Mexico because, at the price point of a luxury US hotel, you can fly an extra hour or two and get a much better resort experience, and often better weather. The new openings and renovations in Mexico are impressive and easily ten times better than any Florida hotel or resort. That was my only reason for bringing up Mexico. In fact somewhere like the Belmond Maroma which just had a reno and looks great do rates at around $6xx a the mo (for example).
