Still they're willing to sell you a J saver through ADL to get to MEL/SYD/BNE and other cities but not directly to them? Of course most of those places would be in higher demand for Americans since they're all closer and/or better-known.

Yeah maybe there are incentives, financial and otherwise, to fill up those TPAC flights to and from ADL, at least for this year.
They used to do that with SFO-HKG (on revenue fares)...could save about 40% by flying UA to TPE and CX on to HKG (all on 016 stock).
