But if you ask me overall, I think the monetization of business class seat selection has gone way to far. And yes, JAL is blocking too many seats for elites. But in the end, that is the current name of the game. But on hhe face of it, I'd probably think the JAL approach with blocks is a better way to protext the elites than the paywall.
I think the US3 are still more or less free for all, but I guess that is the benefit to gain from the somewhat lack luster product.
Do you really have to pay if you have certain
oneworld status? I last flew transatlantic J as an emerald and don't recall needing to pay for any of the available seats on any of my BA flights.
