If the ticket is not basic economy you will get a United flight credit that can only be used for the original passenger within 1 year of booking date. They usually make you rebook via Chase travel and you need to use the entire credit amount on that rebooking or you will lose the residual value.

1.5 cpp is a good value - that's the base that existing CSR cardholders have and it usually goes up to 2 cpp for United flights booked in premium economy or higher. For the CSP the base is 1.25 cpp and points boost is up to 1.75 cpp. The base value is only for people who had the card prior to end of June when the revised benefits went into effect. Points Boost is available to everyone.
