nobody should be surprised here. oura wasnt ready. neither was LLL.
both oura and LLL are experiencing the "consumer DDoS" attacks. unexpected waves of txns.
historically, we have seen this exact same pattern play out all the time.
amex is like a major influencer. redirecting their consumer base to "attack" retailers. amex is prob having a good time showing off their locust swarm.
saks / dell / sears / staples / hilton etc - all canceling orders and pulling GCs.
hilton GC is just a recent example, but dell xbox was huge. tons of canceled orders.
im gonna wait until this circus dies down. oura is scrambling. sold out products. canceling orders. amex CC not working. same w/ LLL.

Historically, the thinking was AmEx paid very little for the coupon book value, if anything. Maybe the free amount was low enough to get a person to spend more or maybe the item was such a high margin product that it didn't matter too much. I wonder if AmEx is providing accurate historic breakage/redemption rates to these coupon book partners before signing these deals. I mean, I can't believe the amount of Oura and LLL talk these past few days. It is just crazy, but the game has become so well tuned and so widely discussed, that is how it will be from now on. But AmEx Plat current adwords are promoting $3500 in annual value. This also seems wrong I think or rather for people to believe it.
When I look at the Oura website, the only ring that I see offered is Version 4. I know how to find Version 3 by Searching, but is there a way to Navigate to it directly from the homepage? My hunch is that Oura expected Platinum card users to buy the current model (4), but failed to write the terms to reflect this. It isn't the first time that an inexperienced partner has made an expensive mistake on the first pass, and frankly I think American Express should provide better guidance.
exactly. im very curious how amex sold this "opportunity" to LLL. amex has the data and knows exactly wat would happen. years of data from dell + saks etc.
i assume amex gave LLL some warning but prob oversold w/ pitch dek numbers and charts.
now the kraken has been unleased.
