Just checked USA–PVG fares in economy and premium economy. Premium economy (fare code R) is currently about $330 cheaper than economy (W fare code), which can be upgraded to Polaris with 40 PlusPoints one way. In contrast, premium economy only requires 30 PlusPoints to upgrade to Polaris. I also looked at the Polaris fare—about $8,000 round-trip when booked into P class.

In other markets, like TPE and HKG, the W fare is a few hundred dollars (~$780 for HKG; ~$500 for TPE) less than the cheapest premium economy. I’m curious when UA will adjust these odd (and expensive) economy fares to PVG (and PEK).

Additionally, there are PZ9 for these PVG flights. There are also lots of PZ for HKG flights. I guess that the Polaris fare is just too high for lots of people and they book other airlines, instead.
