Putting aside the “should have gotten there sooner” comment, I get the frustration. I’d personally push back on AA to get a cash refund if you didn’t get one since this turfed your day trip and seek some miles for the annoyance given the different information / “bending of the rules”. I’m typically not one to ask for miles, but in this case I think it is warranted given that they removed you to hit metrics associated with D0.
