You can try DOT, but I doubt it will yield anything except maybe some miles as a courtesy. I can't see AA agreeing to pay IDB comp for this one. Good luck.
Agree that the delay is probably irrelevant… but what’s the purpose of T15 if they’re going to release your seat at T18? And when I asked who they gave it up to since there’s no standbys cleared they said the flight was oversold and they assigned it to a passenger waiting for a seat assignment.

Anyway, you’re probably right about AA paying any IDB. It seems like you’re at the mercy of the airline, their data and them deciding if they’re paying out or not. The DOT is just a middleman to pass along a complaint but can’t actually enforce the airline to pay anything.
