AA actually just responded to me and tried to claim my seat wasn’t actually given up until 2 mins before the scheduled departure… seems like after I called the agents out for giving up my seat at the 18 min mark they unassigned and reassigned it to CYA. If the delay was after T15, then it's irrelevant, since boarding was supposed to end by then anyway.

You can try DOT, but I doubt it will yield anything except maybe some miles as a courtesy. I can't see AA agreeing to pay IDB comp for this one. Good luck.
