At a minimum, Oakland needs to have International in its name. It has lots of flights to Mexico, and having International in its name helps to advertise that fact.
(BTW, for a time OAK even had a bunch of flights to Europe. May those days return, but I'm not holding my breath.)
I don't believe "international" is needed. DFW used to be Dallas Fort Worth Regional Airport. I don't think Schiphol has "international" in it.
