interestingly, each was part of an itinerary that involved my only flight on a relatively unique turboprop … the first was a Texas International Convair 640 (IAH-SHV-GGG-DFW, with a Braniff 72S up to MCI); the second was an Air Illinois HS.748 CGX-CAP-ENL-MDH

I also logged two on Delta, Dec 1972 MIA-ATL and Mar 1973 BOS-BAL, and each was in conjunction with my first flight on a different type (DL/PA 747 ATL-IAD, and Air New England DC3 LGA-EWB-HYA followed by a bus to BOS)
Sounds like some mighty fun flying! Although I had a pretty good run of flights in the 70s - including aboard the inaugural Concorde domestic flight operated by Braniff IAD-DFW - my highlights were those flights I got to fly First Class in aboard 747s with Qantas, Pan Am, Air France and United. But anytime I got to fly upon a new airline was always a thrill!

It was In the eighties that I started logging "exotics" - mainly in terms of airlines, but occasionally aircraft. My favorite was in 1984 combining an Amtrak rail pass with flights aboard

Northeastern International 727-100 MIA-PIE
Florida Express BAC-111 PIE-MCO
Air One 727-100 STL-MCI
Southwest 737-200 ABQ-PHX
America West 737-100 PHX-LAS
Sunworld International DC-9-10 LAS-ONT
Cascade Airways HS-748 SEA-PSC
Horizon Airlines DC-9-10 PSC-SEA Op. by AllStar

That was a pretty good haul over three weeks...

Below is a link to a trip report I put together some years after the fact covering a 1979 adventure aboard 8 airlines and some classic old airliners...

DENVER TO ALASKA ROUNDTRIP via SO, TI, DL, AA, AS, WC, CP, PW and UA

Alas, I never got to fly a Mohawk BAC-111, a Northeast Yellowbird, a National DC-8-61 or a Bonanza DC-9...

This may be the only thread at FT where you can encounter people who took short or lon̈g trips centered around flying specific aircraft or airlines. Those were the days!

I did a trip in 1987 from Queenstown, NZ to Denver that went:

Queenstown - Mt. Cook - Christchurch Mt Cook Airline HS748
Train to Picton
Ferry to Wellington
Train to Auckland
Air New Zealand 747-200 AKL-MEL F
Ansett MEL-HBA 737-200 Y
Air New South Wales HBA-DPO-MEL F.28 Y
Ansett MEL-SYD-BNE 767-200 F
Brisbane to Cairns Train
Ansett CNS-TSV-BNE 727-200 Y
Singapore 747-200 BNE-SYD-SIN F
Singapore A310 SIN-KUL Y
Malaysian 737-200 KUL-SIN Y
Thai International 747-200 SIN-BKK F
Cathay Pacific 747-200 BKK-HKG F
Swissair 747-300 HKG-NRT F
United 747SP NRT-LAX F
United DC-10-10 LAX-DEN F
Drive to east coast 2 weeks touring with The Dead

I still have all the menus. That'd make a nice trip report down memory lane...
