I have a German licence. I brought my IDP (permis international) with me, and both Avis and Salfa Rent took pictures/scanned them.

Note the safety deposits are quite high even for a class B vehicle; 800 000 CLP was blocked on my bank card each time as a pré-autorisation.

And I said this in other threads, but very few people speak anything but espagnol in Chile. This includes front-end staff and PAF.
