This perk always seemed like a waste to me. If you need to board early, you can just pre-board, and use a different perk that has actual value.

If you are non-Mosaic, and have a non-EMS, Blue fare aisle seat, I think you end up in boarding group E or something like that. You run the real risk of having your carry-on gate checked at that point, especially now that GAs can be overzealous in an attempt to guarantee on-time departures. That was the value of this perk for me when I wasn't Mosaic.
